Bulldog Mating Assistance
Whilst Bulldogs are able to breed naturally, they are prone to some problems. Frustration may begin to occur in the dog, which can in turn lead to injury, aggression and overheating. Persons inexperienced with bulldog breeding should not engage in breeding their bulldog naturally without the assitance of an experienced studmaster or at least a veterinarian familiar with the breed.
One of the problems associated with bulldog breeding relates directly to their physical shape. Their structure does not permit for easy mounting of the stud upon the bitch; a higher percentage of weight of the animal is positioned at the front. When the stud is mating with the bitch, he has to support more weight on his hind quarter, which can lead to overheating as they have to try several times before effective mating occurs.
